Two different waters in Iceland
Hot and cold water in Iceland arrive through two separate systems, which is the one thing worth knowing before you fill a bottle. The cold tap is spring water from protected catchments, and Reykjavík's public health authority pulls samples from the distribution network about twice a week. There is nothing bottled water adds to it.
The hot tap is not the same water. It comes from the geothermal district heating network, drawn from wells and power plants and piped round the city to heat buildings. Run the cold side and give it a moment.
